The history of the rock cellar
Millions of years ago, this area was covered by a primeval sea. What remained was the soft Molasse sandstone, from which an extraordinary cellar was formed deep beneath Pfullendorf.
People carved it into the rock by hand long before anyone thought of restaurants, cocktails, or events. For centuries it was used as a store for beer and ice, offered shelter in difficult times, and remained
yet hidden from many.
It was first mentioned as Höllkeller in 1730. Since then, generations have left their mark on its walls.
